Saint John [Maximovitch], Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco
Commemorated on July 2/ June 19 (new/old calendar)
St. John, one of our contemporary saints, was born in 1896 and reposed in 1966, while traveling with the Krusk-Root Icon of the Mother of God. St. John is beloved throughout the world, especially in areas and communities he served including: China, The Philippines, France, Russia, and North America. He is known for his asceticism (including taking short late-night naps in a chair) and charitable works: building cathedrals, opening an orphanage, opening a home for seniors, visiting the sick/ inmates/ and patients in hospitals. His incorrupt relics remain in San Francisco, at the Russian Cathedral, Holy Virgin Cathedral (Joy of All Who Sorrow) for veneration.
O Venerable Hierarch, St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, intercede for us!
